Section 1: Basic Information

Ali Khan Law Associates (AKL) was established in February 2019. The firm has its offices in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and is working in Quetta remotely. The firm works on corporate transactions and provides advisory services. They work on projects above worth 10 billion rupees. These may include infrastructure projects, energy, oil & gas and renewable energy projects, real estate etc. They deal with public centre companies and private parties.

Section 2: Structure of the Firm

AKL Associates is a small-sized firm. Currently, 9 lawyers are working at the Lahore office. Its accounts office is working from the Karachi branch office and the Human Resource office has been outsourced to a private party. There is one Managing Partner at the firm who is dealing with the administrative and managerial aspects of the firm’s business. There is also a Founding Partner at the firm who controls the legal aspects of the firm’s business. There is no requirement of equity for partnership and the firm is currently in process of hiring future partners.

Section 3: Hiring Mechanism

Summer Internship:There are three tiers of summer internships offered at AKL Associates. The stipend for all these three tiers is 25,000 PKR and the duration is 2 weeks. Tier-1 internship is similar to a summer camp and is focused on the professional skills and grooming of the candidates. It is offered to students from small grades such as grades 6-8 or O/A level students. The tier-2 internship is offered to fourth-year law students and tier-3 internship is offered to fifth-year law students and law graduates.


Hiring Procedure:The hirings in firm open on need basis only. The hiring process consists of 3-4 interviews and one assessment. Initially, the candidate is offered a two week long internship and the internship is extended to a month after evaluation. The remuneration for the internship is 25,000 pk per two weeks. After one month of internship, based on evaluation, the candidate is offered a 3-month long ‘Traineeship’. This traineeship is similar to a probation period and the candidate is paid a 75,000 PKR per month salary during this period. After successful completion of the traineeship, the candidate is promoted to a Tier-1 Associate position. The salary of a Tier-1 associate is 100,000 PKR per month and associates are eligible for performance-based bonuses. The firm does not offer any commission on cases to its lawyers.

Section 4: Alumni

Currently, no LUMS Alumni are working as associates at the firm.
