Section 1: Basic Information

Kabaraji & Talibuddin was founded in 1997 and is a corporate and commercial law firm. The firm is based in Karachi and offers representation across Pakistan. It is a full-service firm that offers services across sectors and industries. The firm undertakes litigation and arbitration as well but does not provide any services in criminal litigation. The volume of higher courts’ work is more than the subordinate courts.

Section 2: Structure of the Firm

Kabaraji & Talibuddin has a team of 17-19 lawyers that includes 2 senior partners, 5 partners and 10-12 associates. The firm has an Accounts department but there is no Human Resources department. The current hierarchy among the legal team is as follows.

Section 3: Hiring Mechanism

Internship: The firm offers summer (June – August) internships only. These are two weeks’ long paid internships. There is no interview process and candidates are shortlisted based on the evaluation of their resumes and cover letters. Interns maybe required to work with senior partners, partners or associates. Their responsibilities would generally include assistance in litigation and corporate matters and research.


Associate:Candidates are shortlisted for interviews after the evaluation of their resumes and cover letters. There may be more than one interview before a decision is reached. Once a position is offered to the candidate, if they are not enrolled in subordinate courts, they join as a “Trainee”. After their enrollment, their title changes to “Associate”. The standard salary for a fresh graduate with no experience is PKR 30,000 to 35,000 per month (inclusive of all benefits). The candidates are hired on a three-month long probation which may extend to six months. After the successful completion of the probation period, the partners have the discretion to review candidates’ performance and revise their salaries. The firm carries out annual performance-based appraisals of its associates. An associate is not hired for one particular partner or legal team. While the firm does consider the preferences of its associates, they are expected to assist in all kinds of work that the firm undertakes. The associates are required to assist all the partners at the firm. There is no finder’s fee or commission for the associates. The firm offers a performance-based progression track to its associates.
