Minto and Mirza started its business in 1994 and has offices in Lahore and Karachi. The firm also works in Islamabad and occasionally represents clients in Peshawar. It is a full-service law firm and its work includes corporate and commercial disputes, corporate litigation, writ jurisdiction and advisory services. It provides services to clients with legal issues related to Oil and Gas, NAB, Banking, Intellectual property and labour. The criminal work in the firm is limited to white-collar crimes. The firm prefers to take appellate-level cases but there are cases from lower courts as well.
Minto & Mirza is a small-sized firm with a total of ten lawyers including four partners. There one accounts department and one administrative department incharge in the firm. There is no human resources department at the firm. The firm offers a partnership track. The ranking among the legal team is as follows.
Internship:The firm offers one-month-long internships year-round but mostly in the summers. The candidates can apply for the internship through the firm's website. The candidates get to know about internship opportunities through the website, word of mouth, career fare and references. The internships are offered on a first come first serve basis and the firm does not take more than 2-3 interns in one month. The interns receive a stipend f 15,000 PKR per month. The firm has developed a course that is taught to interns. In addition to that, the interns are required to do legal research. If an intern performs exceptionally well, they will be given drafting work as well. If there are cases in court the interns are given the opportunity of court visits with the lawyers.
Associate:There is no defined hiring window for the associates. The candidates can apply through the website and the firm reviews every CV it receives. The shortlisted candidates are called in for interviews. An associate has to go through a 2-step interview process. Associates are hired at 25,000 PKR per month salary, this salary might get revised to 30,000 PKR soon. The salaries are reevaluated on basis of performance after 3-6 months. If an associate brings business to the firm, 25% of that business goes into the firm's expenses. From the remainder of that business, the associate receives a 25% share. The associates receive annual increments in their salaries. Although not a general rule but an associate with extraordinary performance can get their salary increased to 50,000 PKR per month after their first year at the firm. Depending on the performance/earnings of the firm, the associates may receive performance-based bonuses at the year-end. These bonuses may be equal to one or two months' salary of the associates.
Previously one of our alumni who joined the firm as a fresh graduate left the firm as ‘Associate Partner’ after 7 years. Currently, one alumnus is working as a ‘Senior Associate’ and one as an ‘Associate’ in the firm.
