Muhammad Jahangir Law Associates (MJLA) started its operations in 2003 and has offices in Lahore, Islamabad and Wazirabad. It is an all-service firm and offers Corporate and Litigation services. MJLA deals with service matters, service tribunal queries, Alternate Dispute Resolution, and commercial matters. However, MJLA’s special expertise lies in Criminal Law. The firm takes both lower and higher courts work in fairly equal volumes.
There are 3 partners and 25 associates working in the firm. The Islamabad office has 6, the Lahore office has 7 and the Wazirabad office has 12 associates. The firm has a separate Accounts office but there is no Human Recourses department. The partners perform the HR duties. The hierarchy among the associates is as follows.

Internship:The firm offers internships in both summers and winters. Generally, interns are hired on basis of references from different law schools. The interns are expected to do research, drafting and court visits. The firm offers a stipend of 8000 PKR for two weeks and 15,000 PKR for a month-long internship.
Associate:Hiring is on a need basis only. The candidates may approach the firm for Associate positions. After successful interviews, the associates are hired on three-month probation with a salary of 20-25,000 PKR per month. After completing the probation, based on their performance, the salaries of exceptional candidates may be increased up to 50,000 PKR per month. The general salary ranges of associates are given in the table in the previous section. The promotions are mostly performance-based. An associate may receive a discretionary bonus on the success of the case they have worked on. The firm offers a 50% share as Finder’s fee to its associates. There is no partnership track at the firm.
