PrimeLegalCo started its business in 2020 with offices in Lahore and Karachi. The firm also has representation in Islamabad, Qasur and Multan. The firm takes both contentious and non-contentious work. The firm does not do any criminal (both White collar and hardcore) work at all. In litigation, the major chunk of the work is in tax law at the High court level and Competition Law. Two of the partners of the firm work part-time as law officers for the Competition Commission and handle both litigation and back-end legal work for the commission. Corporate work includes civil litigation, advisory services, commercial matters, and regulatory compliance. The firm is providing legal services to many startups. Currently, the lower courts' work is handled by an outside counsel, but the firm aims to handle this work itself in near future with the help of associates.
In the Lahore office, there are 2 partners, 1 associate and 1 off counsel. The Karachi office has 3 partners and a team of 5 associates. There are no separate human resources and accounts departments and these matters are handled by the partners. The hierarchy of the lawyers at the firm is as follows.
Internship:The firm does not have a dedicated internship program and does not intend to offer internships. It has previously accommodated candidates who came through references but there is no interntion of offering any formal internships.
Associate:Hiring is on a need basis only. The associates (from LUMS) that have been hired in the firm so far approached the partners who teach different courses at SAHSOL as adjunct faculty. After initial (informal) discussions with the candidates, the partners shortlist candidates for interviews. After a successful interview, the candidate is offered a three-month Trainee Associate position at the firm which is equivalent to probation. A Trainee Associate receives a salary of 20,000 PKR per month. After completion of three months, subject to their performance, the Trainee Associates are promoted to ‘Associate’ position and their salary is increased to 30,000 PKR per month. The firm is in its initial stages and is working on defined policies for its compensation practices. The firm offers a finder’s fee to its associates, but its percentage or calculation formula is yet to be finalized. The additional compensation (Finder’s fee, extraordinary performance on a transaction etc) is expected to be received by associates in form of bonuses. The office provides free of cost homemade lunch. The firm’s culture is flexible for the associates if they want to take part-time work opportunities to make ends meet. The firm believes in work-life balance and generally follows a 9:00 am to 6:00 pm workday. The firm offers a partnership track.
Currently, there are 2 Alumni working as partners and 2 as associates at the firm.
